Another showcase of quality full contact kickboxing was on display recently at the 6th Fight Night to be held at The Palace Nightclub.

Bridgwater newcomers to the ring featured Neil Knight who fought out of his skin only to lose on a decision against his opponent from Penzance. In a thrilling crowd pleaser nineteen-year-old Kayleigh England, also in her debut bout turned around a first round deficit to come back strong to win the next two rounds and earn a points victory over her Weston opponent.

Sandra Dodson fought a close rematch with Gemma Mitchell of Penzance but this time it was the Cornish girl who took the points victory.

The Weston Super Mare versus Bridgwater rivalry continued with the heavy weights, Tony De Senna of Bridgwater started well, putting his opponent Andy Hillier under pressure but the Weston man was durable and came back with some heavy punches. This trend continued for the duration of the fight until a series of heavy right hands in the third round proved too much for De Senna and dropped him to the canvas where he was unable to beat the count. Andy Hillier was declared the winner by knockout.

Bridgwater’s Audrius Budrys then fought Lawrence Andre of Weston and put on a fine display of punches kicks and sweeps to outclass his opponent, knocking him to the floor in all three rounds before being declared the winner on the three knockdown rule.

Mixed Martial Artist Steve Harris representing Bridgwater took on Akos Aladics from Newquay. After testing each other out in the stand up battle Harris closed in to clinch but was ‘upended’ with a reverse hip throw that stunned the Bridgwater fighter. Aladics fought to get a rear choke hold and kept it in place to force Harris to tap half way through the first round.

Top of the bill was a British Bantamweight Title fight between Sean Bowman of Penzance and veteran Keith Morris of London. Following a fairly even first round the younger man of Penzance picked up the pace in the second and began to dominate with furious combinations of kicks and punches. This proved too much for the Londoner who was dropped in the third round and counted out.

An International fight then followed between Weston’s experienced Pete De Vanney and Norway’s Steinar Kronstad. This was a quality fight between two experienced kick boxers. Kronstad, also a Norwegian Karate International competing at the invitation of promoter Arthur Meek, took the first round but De Vanney displayed his experience and skill to come back strong. After three hard fought rounds the judges awarded a draw which brought an appreciative applause from the crowd.

The final match was a four round South West title eliminator between Justo Estrada of Bridgwater and another Weston fighter Kade Sherlock who is unbeaten in his last four fights. It was Estrada however who took the points decision over Sherlock and will now go on to fight for the area title.

The next fight night is to take place next April 2008 and anyone interested in sponsors/v.i.p tables should contact Arthur Meek on 07765042414.
